The Boston Marathon started on Monday, April 19, 1897. The Olympics and a famous Greek legend inspired it. Millions of people have run the Boston Marathon. They face multiple challenges qualifying and then training, heat, exhaustion, heartbreak hill and then the 2 hours and 3 minutes if your Kenyan Geoffrey Mutai in 2011 or 4 hours and 18 minutes for the average runner. So why do they do it? Diana Wood, 41, from Norwell, explained that doctors at Boston Children’s Hospital saved her life as a child and is currently treating her dear friends son. Erin Quinn is running in support of the Boston Public Library. While all runners have their own reason, they raised $40.3 million in 2023 and $500.2 million since the charity program began in 1989. So, this patriots day, Monday, April 15, 2024, I encourage you to support the marathon by running, cheering, or making a donation to your favorite runner or marathon charity. I know we will be doing it at Matchbooks.
